By Their Fruits

Matthew 7:16-23 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

The God of Truth Who Cannot Lie

 I’ve been stuck on this  phrase in Ether. Right after the brother of Jared sees the finger of the Lord the Lord says, “Believest thou the words which I shall speak? And he answered, Yea, Lord. I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth and canst not lie.”

That’s the phrase, “I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth and canst not lie.”

Ponder on that for a bit, I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth and canst not lie.

When God says you shall see his face and know that he lives, (D&C 93:1 and D&C 88:68 for starters) God is speaking truth. Do you believe him?

The record continues, “Because thou knowest these things, ye are redeemed from the Fall. Therefore, ye are brought back into my presence; therefore I shew myself unto you.” 

What things? Because thou knowers what things? That God is a god of truth and cannot lie, correct? 

If I’m understanding correctly, God is saying that once we really believe him and act in faith, then we will come back into his presence and be redeemed from the fall. If we really believe his words then our trust is completely in him and we will do all things according to his word. At that point we’ve learned the lessons of mortality and qualify to be redeemed. We qualify to rend the veil of unbelief and be brought back into his presence, face to face. That is beautiful!

A Key to Revelation

Here is a key to revelation in the Lord’s interaction with the brother of Jared. Notice the request by the brother and then the Lord’s question back:

“Shew thyself unto me. And the Lord said unto him, Believest thou the words which I shall speak? And he answered, Yea, Lord. I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou art a God of truth and canst not lie” (RE Ether 1:12; LDS Ether 3:6-12). 

The Lord was willing to reveal himself to him IF, and only IF, the brother of Jared would believe what he would be taught. Remember Joseph Smith? He asked what church was the Lord’s that he might know which to join. If either servant wasn’t willing to believe and act, the Lord wouldn’t have given more light and truth. The revelation would have been to their condemnation. 

I testify that the Lord does and will answer the prayers of the sincere seeker. Someone who approaches him with a sincere heart, with real intent having faith in Christ alone, that person will receive light and truth if they are willing to believe and act on it. 

Moroni’s Warning to the American Inhabitants

 I was in the beginning verses of Ether this morning. 

Moroni gives a direct warning to the gentiles, many nations who inhabit the land of the americas. 

He stated, “And the Lord would not suffer that they should stop beyond the sea in the wilderness, but he would that they should come forth even unto the land of promise, which was choice above all other lands, which the Lord God had preserved for a righteous people. And he had sworn in his wrath unto the brother of Jared that whoso should possess this land of promise, from that time henceforth and for ever should serve him, the true and only God, or they should be swept off when the fullness of his wrath should come upon them.

And now we can behold the decrees of God concerning this land, that it is a land of promise, and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall serve God or they shall be swept off when the fullness of his wrath shall come upon them. And the fullness of his wrath cometh upon them when they are ripened in iniquity. For behold, this is a land which is choice above all other lands. Wherefore, he that doth possess it shall serve God or shall be swept off, for it is the everlasting decree of God. And it is not until the fullness of iniquity among the children of the land that they are swept off. And this cometh unto you, O ye gentiles, that ye may know the decrees of God, that ye may repent and not continue in your iniquities until the fullness be come, that ye may not bring down the fullness of the wrath of God upon you as the inhabitants of the land hath hitherto done. Behold, this is a choice land; and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under Heaven if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ, who has been manifested by the things which we have written” (RE Ether 1:6-7)

Before this he spoke of the Lord guiding them to take male and female of animals, fish, honeybees, and seeds. I hope we are recognizing the rejection of God and his commandments. Moroni is speaking to us. How will the Lord lead out the righteous this time? 

I hope I’m hearing the Lord. I hope we all are hearing him. He will lead us as he has his humble followers in the past.

Nothing to See Here

 Local “died suddenly.” There will be a way to explain away this as well. Nothing to see here. “Safe and effective.” Chalk it up with thousands of other athletes, including the BYU basketball player that resisted the poke only to finally give in to peer pressure and now his career and life has taken a dramatic turn. And close to the heart for us, as we have a raw milk dairy we run with 10 milk cows, not 18,000. This dairy just happened to have an explosion when 18,000 dairy cows were in the holding pen preparing to be milked. (See link below). At what point do we realize Moroni was telling the truth, that a secret combination will be over us desiring to destroy the freedom of all lands? 

 He who holds the food supply controls the people. “All is well in Zion.” “Keep your eyes on the false prophet and all will be well.” If we’re building temples in small communities than no need to pay attention and act accordingly. It must mean that the Lord has great things for these communities. I served an LDS mission in Spain. It was impressive how many church buildings were in each town or city. It seemed there was a cathedral in every town too, for sure in each city. Same tactics, new generation. These gadiantons and satanists that have infiltrated all churches and organizations are clever, flattering and deceivers.
